Episode Notes

Welcome to the Relaunch of Blissful Spinster! 🎙️🐈‍⬛

After a long pause (thank you, menopause, ADHD, and burnout!), Blissful Spinster is officially back—and I couldn’t be more excited to share this next chapter with you.

In this short trailer, I talk about what pulled me away from the mic, what brought me back, and what you can expect in the new season.

Here’s a snack bite of what’s coming to your ears in upcoming episodes:

— Conversations with indie filmmakers like Annapurna Sriram (Fucktoys, SXSW winner), Josh Margolin (Thelma, Sundance darling), Sav Rogers (Chasing Chasing Amy), and Nico Casavecchia (Boarder Hopper).

Vintage episodes with creative powerhouses like DP Lawrence Sher (The Hangover, Joker, Dan in Real Life), producer Julie Ansell (Spanglish, Edge of Seventeen, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret), and more.

— And a few surprises—including voices from my unexpected and welcome new adventure in accidental organizing and conversations around activism, truth-telling, and creating art in a noisy world.

Whether you’re here for the filmmaking, the unfiltered honesty, the creative inspiration, or the spinster pride, you’re in the right place.

🎧 Hit play and treat your ears to a Spinster snack.

BLISSFUL SPINSTER RELAUNCH TRAILER

Cris Graves (00:00.174)

Hi, I'm Cris Graves and welcome to Blissful Spinster. You know what? It's been a minute. Okay, it's been more than a minute, really, since the last episode dropped in late 2022. The truth is, life happened. I ran smack into menopause, which ran into my undiagnosed adult ADHD, which then ran into a severe case of burnout. All of this resulted in a health challenge. But the good news? I got healthy. I got diagnosed, learned some boundaries, and I found my way back. To myself, to storytelling, and to this podcast. And now, I'm thrilled to share that Blissful Spinster is officially back.

Over the past couple of years, even while I wasn't releasing episodes, I never stopped having and recording conversations when the opportunity arose. Beautiful, brave, wild, messy, joyful conversations with filmmakers, creatives, activists, dreamers, and people whose voices need to be heard.

So I'll be relaunching with a series of chats I had throughout 2024 to, well, just the other day. You'll be hearing from indie filmmaker Annapurna Sriram, whose film, Fucktoys, just won a special jury award at SXSW this year. From director Josh Margolin, whose Sundance darling, Thelma, just finished its theatrical run and marathon awards campaign.

From the brilliant Sav Rodgers talking about their amazing journey with their deeply personal documentary, Chasing Chasing Amy. And from the hilarious and soulful Nico Casavecchia, an Argentine filmmaker with an eye for the human absurd.

Between these episodes, I'll be dropping what I'm calling vintage episodes I recorded before 2024 that are still so worth hearing.

Like DP, Lawrence Sher, chatting about the DP/first-time director relationship, some of his lesser-known films, like The Big Year, and one of my favorite films of his, Dan in Real Life. Or Gracie Films producer, Julie Ansell, fresh off the awards run for Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret

Some of these episodes are deeply personal, some are just pure creative joy, and some will spotlight a surprising, especially to me, new twist in my life, becoming an accidental organizer,

Cris Graves (02:01.1)

and activist friends I'm making along the way. So you'll also be hearing from voices working to protect democracy and tell the truth in an increasingly noisy world.

I'm also quietly, okay maybe not so quietly, still working on getting my feature, Alone Girl made. I can't say too much yet, but just know exciting things are happening.

So whether you're new here or you've been here all along, just waiting for the next chapter, thank you. I'm so happy you've joined me on this journey to find our happy.

This is Blissful Spinster. For every woman, every rebel, every creative, and anyone who's ever felt boxed out by the patriarchy, who's said “no” to the fairy tale, and “yes” to herself, themselves, or however you identify.

See you in your feed very, very soon.
